a few years ago one of my friends was talking in class and the teacher was like “well how about you come and teach the class then” and he was like okay and then actually did a really good job so she sent him out

One of the issues I kept saying to my students is you have to learn to interrupt. When you raise your hand at a meeting, by the time they get to you, the point is not germane. So the bottom line is active listening. If you are going to interrupt, you look for opportunities. You have to know what you’re talking about.

Charlotte Casiraghi entered the Gucci Paris Masters and this happened….

How was this allowed to happen…

The fact that no one said anything to her about her “costume” is wrong. She should not have been allowed to dress like that. I doubt she knows about cultural appropriation but with all of those people there someone had to know and yet they said nothing. That really boils me.

She did this at WIHS this year too, for the costume gambler’s choice (at least I assume it was her…there was someone with this exact thing, if it wasn’t).  Of course then had to get into it with folks about the how and why it’s so distasteful.

I think it’s pretty classless. I’m really surprised it happened once without any repercussion, let alone a second time. There’s so much money and influence here, I can’t imagine this’ll go without backlash. Very tasteless.

I showed this to Fella who is native American (we both have a bit) and he said “well, at least it isn’t cowboys and Indians” showed him the pic of the course walk…he said “oops….”’

I honestly don’t understand how a native american costume is a bad thing??

I don’t see what the problem is? Loads of people do native american for their costume? Really confused …

^agreed. I can’t believe how offended people are getting over this…

I’m so confused. Chill out guys

Since when did wearing a costume have to be completely culturally correct? B/c a lot more people should get bitched out about it then. It’s a costume guys. A COSTUME. take a chill pill.

The fact that people are getting SO worked up about this is absolutely baffling. If a costume is going to offend you this much just because it’s not culturally correct, you’d better board up your house on Halloween, or you’ll go bat shit crazy.

I usually don’t reblog things like this, but people seem not to understand that this is very demeaning for many cultures. I have a dear friend who is Native American and she has expressed her disgust in things like this to me. I take her opinion to heart. It really isn’t anyone else’s place to say “GET OVER IT” when you are not part of this group of people. Respect what people of the Native American cultures have been saying about this kind of dress, and find a new costume.

A culture is not a “costume.” Women do not wear headdress in Native American culture, it is extremely offensive. Also painting a horse is done for religious, and other cultural reasons. This is not having a bit of fun by dressing up and playing “cowboys and indians.”

apihtawikosisan could say this much more elegantly than me.

Go to apihtawikosisan.tumblr.com and ask her why it’s offensive.

Oh get over it. You all dress up for halloween, it’s the same concept.

No, costumes for halloween are NOT the same as playing racist dress up, unless of course you make it a habit to dress up in black face or the like?

An Open Letter to Non-Natives in Headdresses

So, your turn, get over it. If you want to wear feathers so bad, dress up as a bird.

^^agreed. Reblogging for the link to the open letter.

I don’t get how anyone would see this as not being offensive.  Do you remember, at all, what white people and the U.S. government did to the native people here?  Do you not know of the historically despicable treatment across centuries and lands?

Now you’re taking things that are sacred to these people and dealing with it improperly.

Oh boy.

Why would anyone even think of doing this?

I guess it’s not as bad as what Karlie Kloss wore in the VS fashion show…

I really dislike that teachers in #education disclose information about their students. Even though you aren’t naming names, if a teacher ever wrote about me on the internet I would feel very violated. Not that you aren’t saying some nice things, but if my teacher got a  blog and typed a whole post about me raising my hand in class, or how i’m improving and shared it with the rest of tumblr, I’d feel like some of my privacy would be gone.

Uhg. I feel helpless and hopeless and just wish everything was better.

I wish #education listened. You all make me feel terrible.
